When I first saw Sera Latterell's artwork, I knew she was the person for the job. Her artwork was soft with enough detail to appreciate our diversity. I loved her use of color and the precious scenes she captured. Anyway, when I first contacted her, she had just had her baby and was readjusting to life with another little one, so she could not take on my book at that time.
As time went by, I did not see illustrators that moved me in the same way for this book. I tried again, and this time, she set expectations and agreed to take on my project. I loved how she brought my words to life, but even more than that, I loved her vision for this swirl throughout the pages that represents the prayers that the mama is praying for her child.
Ultimately Sera Latterell's designs were perfect for this book, and I am so delighted that I waited for her! Check out her page to see more of her artwork.
